Abstract— The determination of measurement error of an instrument in the procedure of the calibration and the application of corrections are crucial for traceable measurements. The definition, however, of the measurement error may differ in various standards as has been the case for standards used in metrology and medical standards (ex. IEC 60601-2-24:2012 used for medical electrical equipment), respectively. This paper describes the different approaches between these two categories of standards and explains the eventual problems that can arise from the application of the two different definitions justifying this way the necessity of harmonization across different standard documents.
